The purpose of the Association is to support and organise practice-oriented programmes that complement university legal education, providing participants with knowledge and skills that meet the demands of today's legal profession and labour market. Furthermore, the Association aims to organise, support, and facilitate participation in international academic and cultural events, where participants can gain insight into the cultures, legal systems, and educational frameworks of other countries, thereby fostering international cooperation and mutual understanding among law students.

The Structure of ELSA:
43 national groups
ELSA is currently present in 43 countries, where its members take part in diverse academic, professional, and cultural events covering a wide range of topics.

ELSA's extensive network of law students continues to grow through the involvement of members from various countries, ranging from the United Kingdom to Azerbaijan.
432 law faculties worldwide
ELSA's local groups at universities constitute smaller units within the national organisations, known as Local Groups. They are primarily responsible for the organisation and delivery of ELSA's events and activities.
8 law faculties in Hungary
Since 2023, all law faculties in Hungary have been represented within ELSA. As the newest member, ELSA Debrecen was established to further expand the Hungarian network

Four decades of history
Founded in 1981, ELSA has continued to grow and thrive for over four decades. The organisation was established by five law students from Austria, Hungary, Poland, and West Germany, united by the vision of promoting cooperation among law students across borders.

1. What is ELSA Hungary?
ELSA, the European Law Students' Association, is an international organisation with a structure operating at international, national, and local levels. ELSA Hungary is the national organisation responsible for coordinating and supporting all ELSA groups in Hungary, while also representing Hungarian ELSA members within the international network.
2. What does ELSA do?
ELSA's activities can be divided into two main areas: professional development programmes and community building. Professional activities include law-related lectures, moot court competitions, legal case-solving competitions, international professional opportunities, domestic traineeships, and many other programmes organised by ELSA.
In addition to professional development, one of the organisation's main objectives is to build a strong community. Beyond its academic and professional activities, ELSA achieves this through national and international social events, providing opportunities for members to connect and create lasting relationships.
3. How can I become an ELSA member?
You can become an ELSA member by joining one of our Local Groups. To submit your application, click on the "Join Us" button available on our homepage.
4. Do I have any obligations as an ELSA member?
The primary obligation of members towards their Local Group is the payment of the membership fee, which currently ranges between HUF 3,000 and 5,000 per semester, depending on the Local Group. The amount of the membership fee is decided by the members themselves at the General Assembly of their Local Group.
The obligations of members are regulated in detail by the Statutes of the respective Local Group. Members also have the authority to decide on amendments to these Statutes through the General Assembly of their Local Group.
5. Is participation in ELSA programmes are mandatory for members?
No, participation in ELSA programmes is not mandatory for members. Members are free to choose which events and opportunities they would like to take part in.
